VSI crushing

We are the UK’s specialist national contractor for earthmoving, crushing and recycling, and sea and coastal defence works.

VSI crushing

Precise shaping and fine aggregate production

Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) crushing is utilised where precise shaping and fine aggregate production are required. Unlike compressive crushers, VSI units use high-speed rotor impact to fracture material, producing consistent, cubical aggregates with improved surface characteristics.

OEC deploys tracked mobile VSI crushers to sustain, protect and enhance material performance. We sustain resource value by upgrading recycled aggregates into higher-grade usable products. We protect structural performance by ensuring uniform particle shape and reduced weak faces. We enhance end-use quality in applications where grading precision is critical.

VSI crushing is particularly suited to:

  • Producing manufactured sand
  • Improving aggregate shape for asphalt or concrete
  • Refining recycled materials
  • Creating tightly graded finishing products

Material feed is carefully regulated to maintain rotor efficiency and consistent impact energy. Downstream screening ensures accurate separation and minimal reprocessing.

Within recycling centres and on live construction sites, VSI crushers are integrated into wider crushing circuits alongside jaw and cone units. This layered processing approach enables OEC to tailor outputs precisely to project specifications.

All loading shovels are equipped with on-board weigh loaders and printers, ensuring accurate material measurement and transparent reporting. Excavators operate with pulverisers, hydraulic breakers and magnets, enabling efficient material segregation and preparation prior to processing.

Through controlled impact reduction and disciplined process management, our VSI crushing capability enhances the value and usability of recovered materials, delivering refined aggregate solutions within demanding operational environments.

Need to Know More?

Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) crushing is used to produce finely graded, high-quality aggregates by using high-speed rotor impact. It is particularly effective for shaping material and improving particle uniformity where precise grading and surface characteristics are required.

Ovenden Earthmoving Co Ltd (OEC) provides mobile VSI crushing services across the UK as part of integrated crushing and recycling operations. We use VSI units to refine recycled aggregates, produce manufactured sand and deliver specification-ready materials for construction and infrastructure projects.

OEC’s VSI crushing systems are typically used to process crushed rock, recycled concrete and previously processed aggregates. The process is especially effective for improving aggregate shape, refining recycled materials and producing tightly graded finishing products for asphalt, concrete and specialist applications.
