We are the UK’s specialist national contractor for earthmoving, crushing & recycling, and flood, coast & marine defence works.

Dredging

Maintaining navigable channels and restoring harbour depths

OEC is proud to support the dredging industry as a specialist contractor, delivering works across harbours, ports and wider marine infrastructure. Our role is built on operational reliability, technical capability and a deep understanding of the constraints and demands associated with live marine environments.

Dredging maintains navigable channels, restores harbour depths and supports coastal management. OEC undertakes mechanical dredging operations using long-reach excavators and controlled material handling systems.

Health and safety is paramount and underpins every aspect of our dredging operations. Working in and around water, unstable ground and heavy plant requires absolute discipline, robust procedures and a highly trained workforce. We embed a safety-first culture across every project, ensuring risks are actively managed and mitigated at all times.

We bring proven experience as a first-response contractor, capable of reacting quickly to urgent requirements, whether supporting ongoing dredging operations or responding to unforeseen issues. Our teams are trained in tried and tested recovery procedures for stricken plant, including in-house training on emergency escape hatches, ensuring safe and controlled responses in high-risk scenarios.

Our preparedness and mobilisation capability enables us to deploy rapidly to site, with the plant, personnel and support infrastructure required to begin works without delay. This responsiveness is critical in dredging, where timing, access and operational continuity are often time-sensitive.

OEC operates specialist dredging equipment designed for low ground pressure and challenging conditions, including long-reach excavators and amphibious-capable machinery, supported by precision bulldozers for profiling and material management. This is complemented by onboard survey dredging systems, allowing for real-time monitoring, accuracy of excavation and assurance against design levels.

Together, this combination of expertise, equipment and responsiveness ensures OEC delivers safe, efficient and technically precise dredging support across even the most complex marine environments.

With a proud reputation for having one of the most modern fleets, OEC continues to invest in low-emission and hybrid plant to reduce environmental impact without compromising performance. Our fleet incorporates fuel-efficient, hybrid and Stage V compliant machinery, significantly lowering carbon emissions, fuel consumption and noise levels across operations. This allows us to operate more sustainably in sensitive coastal and urban environments, while maintaining the power, reliability and productivity required for demanding marine and earthmoving projects.

Our expert operators, many with decades of coastal and marine experience, ensure consistent, reliable performance in complex and changeable environments. Their understanding of tidal conditions, ground stability and precise material placement is critical to maintaining safety, programme certainty and build quality where there is little margin for error.

OEC supports partners to deliver efficient, compliant dredging with reliable plant availability.

Need to know more?

OEC supports dredging projects across harbours, ports and coastal infrastructure using mechanical dredging methods. We operate long-reach excavators and controlled material handling systems to maintain navigable channels, restore design depths and support ongoing coastal and port operations within live marine environments.

OEC provides specialist dredging support including mechanical excavation, channel maintenance, material removal, profiling and spoil handling. We also support rapid mobilisation, plant recovery operations and short-notice deployment for time-critical dredging requirements.

OEC embeds strict safety procedures for all dredging operations, particularly in water-adjacent and unstable ground conditions. We use experienced operators, low ground pressure plant, onboard survey systems and disciplined operational controls to ensure accurate dredge levels, controlled execution and safe working practices throughout.
